Don’t be scared of highways

A week ago was the very first time I drove a car on the highway. I kinda was always making excuses not to do so and had a presumption of high speeds and reckless drivers who might cut me off anytime while I’m on the highway.
This time, I wasn’t going to be the world’s biggest coward and I just did it. The weather couldn’t be worse, it was raining and the strong wind was blowing that shook us a few times up. Good thing and thank God I have a stable car. The moment I got on the highway I realized how slow everything seems. Like, driving a 100km/h is a lot different in feel when driving through town and on a highway. Even though I’ve never driven 100km/h anywhere, let alone though town which I would never do. Ever. But, the town/highway comparison is just me thinking how it would be. Me driving a 70km/h feels really fast when surrounded with houses and urban atmosphere. And 100km/h in that condition is just insane for me. But, on highway, you don’t actually feel it because the road is wide and straight.
Before the drive I was calming myself by thinking I was gonna drive at the slowest speed possible on a motorway (that is regulated by law). Boy, was I wrong. Like I’ve said, the road is wide and you don’t really get to notice how fast you are going but at the same time still being safe and reasonable. I am not saying I was being reckless and broke the speeding limit. I just felt calm and ok.
So, if any of you is scared of driving on highways. Let me tell you, don’t be. Once you get on the road you just find your safe speed and you will be okay. The moment you feel comfortable, that is the speed you should be driving at. Of course, don’t go over limits. It is stupid and you are playing with your and other people lives. My safe zone speed is around 105 km/h and I am okay with that. Actually, I drove in the rain so I was careful. Will tell you about my real safe zone when I hit the highway again. But, I just know it won’t be a lot faster. Just because there are people who drive a lot faster, doesn’t mean I have to. Guys, drive safe because the important thing is to get to where your going, not bragging of how little time it took you. Please share your driving experiences with me. What are/were your difficulties or fears? If you don’t drive, do you plan to? God bless! Kisses and hugs! ^^
Oh, and the photo above was taken while someone else was driving the car on our way back. I am not that reckless. Actually, I am not reckless at all. Safe zone player. Boo-ya-ka-shah!

      You can do a 365 the way you want it. It can be self portaits or just photo of anything a day. There are no rules. :)) I chose the self-portraits because they are my worst enemies and I wanna defeat them :D

      Thank you so much for your kind words.

    Do you guys have a recommended speedlimit for the highways? In Germany it’s 130km/h but you know those people with a BMW and a Mercedes or Audi usually go close to 200km/h. That’s scary! Here in the US I can only go 130km/h on a few highways, the rest is 100-110km/h. I feel sooooo slow here!!! :)
    But I’m glad you got over your fear, now go enjoy the speed!!!

      Yeah, it’s 130km/h limit here, also. I can not understand people who drive that fast. I mean, I can understand the need of experiencing that speed but ok, you tried it, now be normal dude :D
      I suppose Cali has a lot of hills and that kind of stuff is more interesting to me, driving wise. The large part of the main highway in Croatia is just straight and you have a feeling like you haven’t progressed at all. But with hills and forests around you, its much more interesting.

    This is funny because I’m a crazy fast driver.. completely opposite of you. 75+ mph (120 km/h) is about normal on the highway for me. (Which is only 10 mph / 16 km/h over the speed limit..) Yeah, I’m probably going to get stopped by a cop one day and get a ticket. I have a hard time not going faster. (;

      Being stopped by a cop would be my least worry. I kinda don’t want to be the initiator of someone’s crash, or mine.

    Funny you mention that, I feel the same way about the speed in Town vs Speedway. I guess the fact that you have to account so many variables in town makes you be more aware of the speed you’re going. I mean, you have all the signs, the pawns, the other drivers, so on. You know what, my first driving lesson was on a rainy day and my instructor took me right away to the speedway. I was freaking out with the pedals, and the rain and all that. I arrived home and told my mom I was gonna quit. I was so traumatized and the sense of responsibility of having a car on my hands kinda got me. It still does actually. Luckily I don’t need to use the car so much around town. I have Public Transportations do that for me :D

    Drive Safe, Stay safe.
